Do Motorcycle Alarms Make Any Noise?
October 9, 2009
Harley Davidson motorcycles, custom cruisers, and race bikes are all expensive vehicles. With motorcycle prices ranging from a few thousand dollars to over $30,000, it’s important to find effective ways to protect the investment. More importantly, buying a motorcycle is an emotional purchase. For most riders, a stolen motorcycle is even more painful than a stolen car.
Getting a motorcycle alarm might sounds like a good idea but they have not proven to be effective deterrents to motorcycle theft. Like car alarms, the sound of a motorcycle alarm is very generic and may not cause bystanders to take notice.
The hard truth is that motorcycles are fairly easy to steal by motivated thieves. Here are some tips to help minimize your risk.
- Use multiple locks: In addition to your wheel lock, use a secondary lock to secure your bike.
- Park in well lit areas only: Avoid secluded areas when parking your bike, especially for extended periods.
- Keep your eyes open: Use your common sense and avoid areas and situations where incidents of theft are more prevalent.
With a few precautions and some common sense, you can make sure your prized motorcycle stays in your possession.
