New York motorcyclist killed by elderly driver
July 27, 2009

A 40-year-old man from New York was killed on Saturday morning when his motorcycle hit an elderly, unlicensed driver attempting to turn directly into a driveway from the center lane of a road.

Raymond Bartley, of Staten Island, was riding his Honda 600RR racing bike on Narrows Road North around 11 a.m. When two cars ahead of him suddenly veered into the left lane to avoid hitting a car driven by 79-year-old Margaret Matheson, Bartley swerved to the right and hit the passenger side of Matheson’s 1994 Nissan Sentra.

Bartley was thrown 20 feet from his bicycle and suffered traumatic internal injuries. Bystanders came to his aid and he was transported to Staten Island Hospital North where he was pronounced dead.

Margaret Matheson was ticketed for operating a vehicle without a license.
