Pre-School Teacher Killed in Somerville Motorcycle Crash
July 12, 2010

Motorcycle accidents continue to rise this summer, and a Friday night crash in Somerville, Mass. claimed yet another victim. A 29-year-old pre-school teacher was killed after being thrown off her boyfriend’s Harley in a single-motorcycle crash.

Sinead M. Lovett, 29, of Braintree, was riding on the back of a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by her boyfriend, Richard Migliacci, 37, of Somerville. Police said he crashed it into a curb on Route 28 South (police are still investigating the cause).

Both Lovett and Migliacci were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment, but it was too late for Lovett. She was pronounced dead at MGH. Migliacci suffered brain damage, kidney and bladder failure, a fractured hip and his stomach was torn open, and he underwent surgery the same night. He is expected to make a full recovery.

He is now in a “fair” condition, a Media Relations Officer for MGH said. Migliacci is doing better, but his mother says, “emotionally he’s suffering”. She said, “He had to be sedated when he found out she died,” the Patriot Ledger reported yesterday.

According to his mother, Migliacci told her that he struggled to maneuver around cars and hit a road island. This story is particularly sad since Lovett and Migliacci had been together for a year, and the fatal crash was their first motorcycle trip they had in a while. Both were wearing helmets, but the impact of the crash was too strong for both of them to survive it. At least one life was saved, perhaps thanks to a helmet.

We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate accident. Our hearts and condolences go out to Sinead Lovett’s family and friends, and we sincerely sympathize with Richard Migliacci for his loss.

This article is innaccurate. Sinead was not dating Ricky. She was with him on her way to see her boyfriend. Perhaps they should investigate his blood alcohol level.

Dear blog reader, thanks for your comment on this post. We found the news article covering this fatal crash here: http://www.patriotledger.com/news/cops_and_courts/x104355673/Pre-school-teacher-killed-in-motorcycle-crash

They mention that Sinead was dating Richard Migliacci, based on an interview with his mother.
We appologize if there was a mistake, and we deeply sympathize with the loss of your friend.

I don’t know who Anonymous could be, but they are deliberately lying. Ricky and Sinead had a volitile (at times) but fairly consistant relationship for over a year….at the time of the accident they were pretty happily together.

((addressing above post))

“Criminal charges should be brought forward.”

If the above statement were true, he would have been indicted immediately and arraigned at his bedside. Somerville/STATE PD would be all over him.

Regardless of the relationship status at the time of the incident, (they were once together, and volatile or not, loved eachother immensely) A beautiful life was lost, another life ruined and 2 families now left broken.

My condolences are with the Lovett Family during this abrupt, tragedy. No words can comfort your solace. In time, you never learn to live with it, you learn to accept it. May God hold Sinead in the hallow of his hand, until you meet again. ~i~

I am not minimizing the seriousness of this fatality. and lets not get caught up on irrelevant facts. The Lovett family shall have justice, whatever that entails. But I am speaking on behalf of myself, who has been friends with Rickey for years. He is a loving, caring, emotional soul. He has given me the shirt of his back. Believe me Im certain he is holding himself accountable, and I pray the guilt doesn’t take on his life as well. But We’ve all made poor decisions in our past, some maybe not as potentially wreckless, others saved by the grace of God. The slightest negligence can take someones life. However, I’m not sure where there is any negligence in this case. This was an accident, no malice or lack of judgement. I understand when a life is lost, we search high and low to place blame. We stand on the outside, trying to solve this perplex equation adding any variable. However, ones past shouldnt dictate their current profile. Cars. aggresive mass-holes, city roads and people not paying attention to motorcyclists can be extremely dangerous. Im saddened people are jumping the gun to throw Rick under the bus. He is hurting severely too. The only ones with any certainty, are the witnesses themselves.

Richard Migliacci was indicted for motor vehicle homicide. He had blood alcohol level 3x the legal limit. He had a suspended license. Witnesses said he ran a red light, was traveling at high speed and cut off an oil tanker. This was not an accident. He is responsible for her death. Our family lost her. Her mother lost her only child.
