So, You Want a Big Harley but…..
December 17, 2009

I don’t have a Harley Davidson motorcycle and even though I love them, I’m not sure if I will ever own one. At times I think they are simply too expensive of a luxury item for me.

I love the 2010 Street Glide but with a starting price of $31,000, the Street Glide costs more than both of my cars combined. Even some late model used Street Glides cost around $15,000. That’s a lot of money. And these prices do not include any maintenance, upgrades, or customization.

Maybe I’ll get a Harley one day but for now, I have to think of options that will give me a great ride while working within my meager budget.

Here are some bikes I am considering:

2007 Suzuki M109r: This bike is one of the best muscle cruisers on the market and has a great combination of cruiser comfort and sport bike performance. These bikes can be found for under $10,000 and have as much curb appeal as any bike on the market.

2007 Yamaha Road Star Warrior: This is probably the best bike to buy if you are looking to build an original, custom motorcycle. The Warrior is renowned for being able to transform into almost any type of bike. This air cooled monster is fast, sleek, and stylish. Late model Warriors can be found for under $8000

2009 Victory 8-Ball: The New American Motorcycle Company can get you on a great bike without breaking the bank. The 8-Ball is a great cruiser with style, power, and affordability. 2008-09 models can be found for under $10,000.

2010 Honda Fury: This bike just hit the streets a few weeks ago and already they are popping up at used motorcycle dealers and online motorcycle marketplaces. These bikes are hot, combining the stretched chopper look with Honda’s legendary reliability. For less than $12,000, a slightly used model can be in your garage.

Buying one of Harley’s flagship motorcycles is a huge statement whether you are riding down the street or parked at a local motorcycle event. While very few bikes make a statement to motorcycle lovers like the Harley Street Glide, consider your options carefully before you spend the money to have one. You may find that another bike makes a big enough statement and saves thousand for dollars.
