The same day, only a few hours later, a 20-year-old Durham, New Hampshire resident was killed in a motorcycle accident in Madbury.

According to police, the accident occurred around 5:30 pm, when Tyler Smith lost control of his motorcycle on a tight corner of Freshet Road and crashed into a group of trees.

Smith was wearing a full-face helmet, the Boston Globe reported. This accident remains under police investigation.

The victim, Paul E. Michel, of Cumberland RI, was traveling north on 495 on a 2011 Victory Jackpot when he lost control and veered into the breakdown lane, crashing into a guardrail, state police said.  The accident which happened on Saturday afternoon, claimed Michael’s life almost instantly. He was ejected from the motorcycle and went over the guardrail, the Boston Herald reported, suffering fatal injury. Michael was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Association (NHTSA), 42 people died in Massachusetts motorcycle crashes in 2008.

According to District Attorney’s office,  Vagts’ car struck a Vespa scooter on Ward Street in Newton on July 8th, fatally injuring Marcia Kearney, 54, of Northampton. Kearney was transported to a Boston hospital, where she later died.

Prosecutors said that Kearney was thrown more than 80 feet in the crash.

Vagts, a retired law professor, was teachng at Harvard for more than 40 years. He retired in 2005 as the Bemis Professor of International Law.

According to the Boston Globe, Vagts said he believes the citation to be overly harsh and maintains that the crash was an accident. No court date has been set for his trial.

The accident happened on Saturday night around 8:45 pm, police said. Dennis Taft of Franklin, traveling on Route 11 east, lost control over his motorcycle and left the roadway, crashing into several objects before coming to rest. The motorcycle finally stopped in the driveway of 44 Franklin Highway in Andover, NH.

Taft suffered fatal injuries. He was transported to New London Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.

John K. Correia was killed when his motorcycle struck a utility pole in the area around 1:45 am on Saturday. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Correia was riding a 1993 Harley Davidson motorcycle, which, according to police, veered off the road to the right, then struck the pole and crashed into a grassy embankment.

The impact of the crash threw Correia off his motorcycle and against a parked vehicle before coming to rest in a driveway on North Main Street.

Correia suffered serious head trauma, police said, even though he was wearing a helmet. We sincerely sympathise with his family and friends.

The crash remains under investigation.

This latest tragic accident happened on Friday, and claimed the life of a high school student who was trying to get to school on his bike.

The 18-year-old Myles Brastow was on his way to Attleboro High School  Friday morning Friday when the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a mailbox and possibly into a car on Thurber Avenue near Chapel Hill Drive, the Sun Chronicle reported. Brastow was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not named the driver of the car which might have been involved in the crash. For now it is known that she is a 21-year-old woman, and that she was not injured.

Brastow was wearing a helmet, police said.

According to the Sun article, a preliminary investigation indicated he was traveling on Thurber Avenue toward Oakhill Avenue and the car was coming out of Chapel Hill Drive when the crash occurred, police said.

The crash remains under investigation. No charges have been filed. This is the third tragedy in the last three years to take the life of an Attleboro High School student.

Gina Rogers, 43, was in a critical condition ever since she arrived last Monday at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH following a tragic motorcycle accident caused by her husband’s drunk driving. Gina Rogers was traveling as his passenger on the 2009 Harley-Davidson which struck a guard rail on Route 111  near Garland Drive in Hampstead, NH.

Gina was thrown from the motorcycle into the street suffering a severe head trauma. Neither Gina, nor her husband were wearing helmets. She was treated for extensive head trauma at the hospital, where she died on Friday.

Mark Rogers, 47, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated in the accident. It is not yet clear whether police will upgrade his criminal charges following his wife’s death.

Police say the accident remains under investigation.

One man died in a single-motorcycle crash in Lyndeborough on Friday, while another man lost his life in a collision between his bike and an SUV on Ball Hill Road in Milford, in which his female passenger also suffered injuries.

The first accident involved a 71-year-old Milford resident, David Doyle, who lost control of his 2009 Harley-Davidson FLHTCUTG motorcycle on Center Road, Nashua Telegraph reports.

His motorcycle rolled over twice causing fatal injuries to Doyle, who was not wearing a helmet, police said. He died following the Friday night crash.

Police could not say if alcohol was a factor in the accident. The road itself could have caused it. Center Road is long and curvy making it a popular scenic route for motorcyclists.

The second fatal motorcycle accident happened on Sunday when a 2004 Yamaha motorcycle collided with a 2004 Honda CRV on Ball Hill Rd. Richard B. Clark, 42, of Lyndeborough died in the accident while his passenger, a 36-year-old Massachusetts woman, Kimberly L. Lambert, of Pepperell suffered serious though non-life-threatening injury.

The causes of both accidents are not yet clear.

Ball Hill Rd in Milford NH

According to police, the accident happened around 5pm when Richard B. Clark, 42, of Lyndeborough, NH traveling south on Ball Hill Road collided his 2004 Yamaha motorcycle with a northbound a 2004 Honda CRV, operated by a Milford driver, the Union Leader reported.

Clark’s passenger, Kimberly L. Lambert, 36, of Pepperell, MA sustained injuries and was taken to a Massachusetts hospital, while Clark died in the crash.

It is not clear whether the SUV driver, Justin L. McVey, 22, or his passenger, Bethany A. Calvetti, 18, both from Milford, were injured.

The cause of the accident is under police investigation.

According to local police, the victim, Thomas Beesley, 66, of Center Ossipee, died when his motorycle crashed with a car driven by Lillian Perry, 41, of Newburyport, MA, as she was attempting to make a left turn on Route 16.

Beesley swerved left to avoid Perry’s Chrysler Sebring by going around it, however, he struck the driver’s side door instead. Beesley was thrown from the 2010 Harley Davidson he was riding. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

This tragic motorcycle accident happened earlier in a week marked with other fatal motorcycle crashes, including the ones in which a Lowell police officer and a Marshfield motorcyclist lost their lives (in separate crashes). We hope the news of motorcycle fatalities will subside with the coming of colder months as riders will put their bikes away for the season.
