The Best Place to Go Fast
October 30, 2009
Becoming a fast, competent, and confident motorcycle racer is not something that happens overnight or by luck. In order to be the best, aspiring racers have to take time to learn and hone their craft through years of practice. For almost everyone, this means going to school.
Named by the Motorcyclist as ‘The Best Place to Go Fast’ Jason Pridmore’s STAR Pro School is the place to go to get the very best training available. Since 1998, STAR (Skills and Techniques for Advanced Riding) has successfully instructed thousands of riders; some becoming AMA Superbike stars.
The location of the Pro School is Thunderhills Motorsports Park in Willows, CA. This track is the perfect backdrop for superbike race training because the track is suitable for teaching both technical riding and speed. Also, the track can be divided in half so groups of racers can work on different elements of racing.
Training on a shorter track has the added benefits of minimizing distractions and the ability to provide faster feedback. This means better safety for the race students.
Another advantage to training at Thunderhills Motorsports Park is the course can be run backwards without compromising safety for the riders. This added variety helps riders to develop skills instead of memorization of a course.
Best about the Pro School by far is the quality of the instructors. The instructors included local, national and world champion superbike racers who log thousands of miles training aspiring racers. These instructors cover advanced braking, downshifting, steering, and visual drills. They are also able to tailor their training to the specific needs of each race student. The school boasts a 3:1 instructor to student ration ensuring that everyone has maximum instruction and feedback exposure.
In 2009, STAR School added several Suzuki GSXR camera bikes linked to the school truck for monitoring. This allows the race students to get great feedback from the instructors who follow them during their training runs. This level of feedback and sophistication helps the race students learn faster and make improvements more quickly.
Jason Pridmore’s STAR Pro School makes every attempt to provide each student with exact what they need. They understand it’s their job to make sure the expectations of each student is met and exceeded. To attend Pro School, a student must complete the Standard Star School Training Program.
