The Last Word on Helmets
July 31, 2009
There are riders out there who don’t want anything to come between them and the open road. So, they ride with a cool pair of biker goggles, a muscle t-shirt, jeans, tennis shoes, and no motorcycle helmet. There are lots of things wrong with that picture but let’s focus on the lack of helmet issue for a moment.
Here are some indisputable truths about SNELL/DOT helmets.
- They save lives
- They minimize injuries
- They prevent injuries
There are dozens of studies and statistics that back up these truths but there is no reason to discuss them. Every biker knows helmets protect against injuries. If you live in a state without a mandatory helmet law, you have a choice but, it is a careless and unnecessary risk if you don’t wear one. Motorcycles are dangerous even for the most experienced riders and motorcycle accidents at low speeds can be fatal without a helmet. If you won’t do it for yourself, wear a helmet for your friends, family members, and loved ones. It can be the difference between life and death.
